Mr. Rogers

Fred Rogers had a show on educational TV in the United States from 1968 to 2003 for preschoolers titled “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.” It taught preschoolers about life situations including anger, divorce, death, trust and bullying. Mr. Rogers also wrote the music and lyrics for songs played during his shows.

On TV, Mr. Rogers talked directly to the pre-school viewer in a gentle manner, on a friend-to-friend level, introducing guests to illustrate his points. On TV, he always wore sneakers and a cardigan sweater, usually red.
Fred Rogers died in 2003. In 2019, a popular movie, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” was written about him.

There is a Dutch proverb, “Too soon old, too late smart,” identifying that when you get older you have learned how you should have lived life differently when you were younger. Being now over 75 years old, I feel that I have reached that age of now being older, but now being smarter.

I met a woman who asked, “Have you seen all the continents?” I said, “Yes!” Then she said, “Then you have seen Antarctica.” “No,” I said, “I forgot about that one.”

Recently, my old school, University of California at Davis, sponsored at trip to Antarctica preceded by a trip to Iguazu Falls (which allowed me to see the falls again). I had to go.

The following is a picture of our hotel at Iguazu Falls seen from a helicopter; penguins; and the ship that took us to Antarctica.
